STEM / Environmental Studies:
At Parkdale Primary Foundation to Grade 6 students attend attend STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Environmental Studies weekly for 45 minutes. In this class students have the opportunity to complete hands-on projects linked to the Science and Technologies Victorian Curriculum and their classroom Inquiry Topics.
S: Students work through the scientific method and learn the importance of making a hypothesis, writing detailed observations and completing fair tests while completing fun, engaging science experiments.
T: Students learn the importance of online safety and how to use technology to research and code. They are exposed to many forms of technology such as Bee-Bots, Spheros and a variety of different iPad apps.
E: Students show off their creativity by completing hands-on Makerspace projects where they focus on planning, team work, being persistent and trial and error.
M: Students learn to use mathematics in every day practice, with a key focus on developing different problem-solving skills.
Environmental Studies: Student’s focus on the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and look at sustainable practices they can implement at school and home to help make a difference in our world.
